A Great Summer of Sport in the Lake District

The Karrimor Great Trail Challenge is a brand new off-road running event with 10k, half marathon and marathon distances, starting and finishing in Keswick. The course takes in breath-taking views of Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite and Latrigg Fell and is set amongst the popular trails, footpaths and bridle paths of the Lake District.

Dave Newton, managing director of Nova International said, “2012 will undoubtedly inspire many people to get active or try a new sport, we’re thrilled that the Great Summer of Sport will be an opportunity for people throughout the UK to experience two exciting events in one of our most scenic destinations.”

The Royal British Legion is the nominated charity for the event. At the event launch on the shores of Windermere members of the armed forces who are representing and supporting the charity joined Great North Swimmers for a military style boot camp on the shores of Lake Windermere.

Russell Thompson, Director of Fundraising at The Royal British Legion said: “The Royal British Legion is absolutely delighted to be the charity partner for this exciting new event. Our British Armed Forces are known the world-over for their ability to tackle and overcome physical challenges and we are proud to support them. We hope the Karrimor Great Trail Challenge will attract participants from the Armed Forces to take part in this demanding sports event while raising funds for comrades who the Legion is there to help today and for the rest of their lives.”
