Spinal cord injury can happen to anyone and the most common causes are road traffic accidents, falls, illness and sporting accidents. Injuries are sustained every year by locals and holiday makers who make innocent mistakes as Nikki Wilson, Head of Wings for Life UK explained: “Every year coastguards and ambulance services are called to deal with seaside injuries as people leap into the water around the coast blissfully unaware of the risks. Many don’t realise the dangers which lurk below the surface or don’t see that they’re jumping into shallow water. Sadly every year this leaves people with debilitating spinal injuries.”
Wings for Life fund cutting-edge research projects and clinical trials across the globe aimed at accelerating progress towards a cure for spinal cord injury. Spinal cord injury happens in a moment, but the impact lasts a lifetime and there is currently no medical treatment available to repair the injured spinal cord.
The charity boast a unique set up where by their founders cover all administrative costs so 100% any donation goes directly into vital research.
