Race preview: Iron Girl and IronKids - Richmond Park, September 9, 2012

Two new events have been added to the London Duathlon event taking place on September 9, 2012 in Richmond Park.

  • New Iron Girl 5km and 10km run
  • IronKids London

Iron Girl London

Iron Girl London is very much targeted at women of all ages and levels of ability, offering a 5km or 10km run option, driving the Iron Girl ethos of empowering all women to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Taking place within the confines of Richmond Park’s 2,500 acres, which is fully closed to traffic for the day, the event offers women the chance to compete in a truly unique environment. So whether you are an experienced athlete or first time runner, this event offers the perfect opportunity to set yourself a goal and have a go!

The one lap 5km or 10km course will wind its way through the beautiful surroundings of London’s largest Royal Park, on a traffic free tarmac road run, enabling you to enjoy the stunning surroundings and colourful wildlife, including 650 free roaming deer.

Iron Girl London run will be incorporated within the famous London duathlon - the world’s largest run, bike, run event - with staggered start times in the middle of the day's activities. With a range of distances on offer to suit all abilities including an ‘IronKids’ event for children aged 3-14, there really is an event to suit everyone throughout the day, so there’s no excuse not to get involved! What’s more the event is all in support of a great cause, MacMillan Cancer Support.

Richmond Park not only provides a perfect setting for competitors but also for spectators. The course lends itself perfectly for friends and family to support and cheer you on and there will also be a Expo village with leading brands on site to add to a fun day out.

The kids races at London Duathlon have proved exceptionally popular and this year the event becomes part of Ironkids, a series of races linked to the Ironman triathlon series.

This year we are expanding the capacity to accommodate more children in the races which will be scheduled through the day to allow mum, dad and the wider family to take part in the Duathlon and Iron Girl as well.
