Product news: Chia seeds have naturally occurring high levels of anti-oxidants, omega 3s, fibre and a good balance of protein to carbohydrate

Starting his own business whilst unemployed, Tim decided to launch a UK first, a chia seed based runners drink, using the latest superfood.

Up and coming superfood chia seeds have been used to develop a unique drink aimed at health conscious runners.

"With more omega-3 fatty acids than salmon, a wealth of antioxidants and minerals, a complete source of protein and more fibre than flax seed, the seeds have been dubbed a "dieter's dream", "the running food", "a miracle", and "the ultimate super food", by advocates and athletes." BBC News

Avoiding the sugar highs and lows, Chia Charge claims its health benefits are achieved through the naturally occurring high levels of anti-oxidants, omega 3s, fibre and good balance of protein to carbohydrate.

Chia GargeChia seeds are a popular superfood from Latin and South America, high in omega 3 and antioxidants which aid joints and promote faster recovery from exercise.

Based in York, UK, Tim said "runners can now fuel healthily when participating in endurance events. Using the novel natural sweetener Stevia from South America has meant I don't need to use sugar to make this taste great.  The long term health benefits last way beyond a single race or run. This means that runners can recover well (antioxidants), joint health is maintained (omega 3s), hydration is efficient (natural gel properties) and runners have a good intake of fibre (which can help lower cholesterol)."

Tim Taylor, started  the business after making his own drinks for marathons this year. Realising that the UK was falling behind in the development of products for runners based on healthy foods, Tim decided to back his own judgement and launch Chia Charge.

Tim is a 49 year-old mid pack runner, trying to improve, and has run seven marathons so far in2012 and setting his personal best of under four hours for the first time.
