Product review: Inov-8 trailroc™ 245
A light, stylish-looking shoe that performs well over road and trail in all weather conditions.
It’s produced by Inov-8, so of course it’s going to look good. Lime green lacing and trim, set against a deep blue mesh and uppers. With a low profile it looks suited to the road, but underneath is a set of cleats that’ll comfortably take you onto rough terrain.

An anatomical fit allows room for the toes to spread out in the toe-box, giving a comfortable fit suitable to training rather than racing. A sensible lacing system allows quick and easy lacing, holding the foot firmly in place.
Inov-8’s latest innovation is a Tri-C compound sole designed to give a ‘sticky’ grip at the front of the foot, allowing the toe-section to grip the rock on impact, an ‘endurance’ rubber for the main part of the foot to extend the life of the sole, and a ‘rock-guard’ around the arch of the foot to protect against roots and sharp rocks.
The shoe performs well, offering enough protection and cushion to run those road sections that take you to the trail, but then come into their own when you reach the trails. They cope admirably with rough trail, loose rock and soft ground. With such a light shoe you might expect a reduction in protection through the sole but this isn’t the case; the rock guard does it’s job of protecting the foot arch.
