Running with Dogs: In this new series of articles Run247 columnist Kirsty Reade will be introducing tales from dedicated runners and their four-legged friends
When I see my dog running along a beach with a look of joy on his face, ears blowing in the wind and his tongue lolling around all over the place I think to myself that I know exactly how he’s feeling, because I feel like that about running too. OK, he’s quite a bit quicker than me, his form is faultless, he never seems to get tired, and his greetings to his fellow runners are a bit different to mine (I try not to sniff them if I can help it), but we both love running for its purity and for the joy it brings us.

So if owner and dog love running, why not buddy up and run together? Your bond will grow, you’ll have a running partner who never complains, doesn’t answer back, and will adore you for taking them running. The only downside is that when they go to the toilet you will have to clean it up, unlike normal running buddies (I hope).
We are big dog lovers here at Run247 so we thought we’d celebrate man’s best running buddy with a series of features on running with dogs. We will have contributions from husky owner Sandra Bowers, queen of super-fast and super-long running; ultra runner Adela Salt; Run247 editor Britta and contributor Kirsty. We will be covering everything from four minute miling and 16.03 parkruns to running ultras and just running for fun with our best friends.
