Run247 comes to the rescue

Thursday 29th April 2010

When the ash cloud prevented two runners from travelling to the Boston Marathon, Paul Shanley from Run247 came to the rescue.

Paul Goozee and Andrew Priest were due to run in the Boston Marathon on April 19, 2010 for the DKH Legacy Trust’s – but due to the ash cloud their flight was cancelled at the last minute. Both were worried they would miss out on running in a marathon and that this would cause them to lose all of the sponsorship they had worked so hard to raise – their funds currently stand at around £2000 for a local hospice and £2000 for the Trust.

In a final attempt to solve their marathon problems, the two guys contacted the Trust’s Communications Director, Louise Wolsey, to see if she could help. Louise’s contact at Run247, Paul Shanley was the hero of the hour and arranged for the guys to run in the first ever Brighton Marathon.

Paul and Andrew, and everyone at the Trust, were all really grateful that Run247 was able to help and the guys had a brilliant day.

Paul said, “After the disappointment of cancelled flights to Boston, managing to get a place in the Brighton Marathon was brilliant. It was a lovely day with virtually no wind, sunshine and a good temperature for running, and despite starting from the back I managed to run 3hrs 39 minutes passing several thousand runners en route.”

Dame Kelly said, “I am delighted that Run247 was able to help my two runners for my charity in their hour of need. To not to be able to fly to Boston and run in the event for which they had trained and fundraised so hard was devastating. So, when I learned that Run 247 was able to help them out by gaining places for the first ever Brighton Marathon, I was chuffed to bits and so were Paul and Andrew!”
