Race feature: Run247 columnist Kirsty Reade takes a look ahead at the adidas Thunder Run 24hr - July 27th-28th 2013
If your idea of fun is a weekend of camping with a load of friends, eating and drinking lots, shouting yourself hoarse watching a live event and then collapsing into a stinking, exhausted heap at the end of it, you’ve got 2 options this summer: a music festival or the adidas Thunder Run 24 hour race.

The adidas Thunder Run can be run solo or in a team of two to eight runners and the goal is to clock up as many laps of a 10k loop as you can in 24 hours. It takes place at the beautiful Catton Park in Derbyshire and they definitely look after you well with great camping facilities (though sleeping is for wimps!), excellent catering and even hot showers. The 10k loop is undulating and all off-road and it’s so nice that it’s quite hard to get bored of, which is just as well.
I did the adidas Thunder Run in 2011 and 2012 and I can honestly say it’s now firmly established as one of the highlights of my year. It’s a great opportunity for a weekend away with club mates and like-minded running addicts and the atmosphere is fantastic.
In the run up to this year’s event on July 27th and 28th we will be reviewing the recommended adidas kit and following some Run247 runners, hearing about their preparation and training, and importantly how many blister plasters they are taking with them.
We will also be featuring two teams from the fantastic Marathon Talk podcast (www.marathontalk.com): one headed up by Liz Yelling and the other by Martin Yelling. So if you’re a Marathon Talker, if you like the sound of the adidas Thunder Run or you are just a bit of a perv who is attracted by the sound of a dirty weekend, keep checking back, like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter, to get all the latest updates.

I’d describe myself as borderline obsessed with running, racing, reading about running, and watching others run so hopefully I’m fairly typical of Run247’s visitors. I tend to do longer races, particularly off-road marathons and ultras, but am pretty much a fan of any distance. I'm passionate about helping runners of all levels to improve through running communities I'm involved in, such as Underground Ultra and Free Range Runners.
