Since the first race in 2003, UK runners have been part of the The North Face® Ultra-Trail Du Mont-Blanc®!

Lizzie Hawker is not only the most successful UK runner, she is also the athlete with the most wins to her name in the history of the event! Lizzie won in 2006 and 2008, was second in 2009 and back on top of the podium in 2010, 2011 and 2012! Read this interview we did with her following her most recent win: (HERE)

In 2010 Jez Bragg took the overall win. Read Jez’s training diary to find out what preparation goes into attempting to win a huge race like the UTMB (HERE)

Over the 10 years UK athletes have placed on the podium in the four events a pretty impressive 15 times. (We are claiming Scot Ellie Greenwood  as one of us here even though she is not based in the UK!). Alun Powell won the CCC in 2006, was eighth in the UTMB in 2007 and then third in the CCC in 2008.

Lucy Colquhoun was second in the CCC in 2007, won it in 2008. Claire Price came second in the CCC in 2011. Ellie Greenwood won the CCC in 2012.

UK runners have also performed well in the Petite Trotte à Léon (PTL™) since its inauguration in 2008.

** Due to bad weather the course for the 2012 UTMB® was amended to keep participants in France to avoid the high altitude passes. The new route was a little more than 100km long, with almost 6000m of height gain, with both start and finish in Chamonix.

* Due to bad weather the 2010 UTMB was abandoned at the 31k (Les Contamines). It was then decided to race over the CCC course (Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix) the next morning, ie 98.5 km to 5618 m of positive ascent.

Fun stats

In the first 10 editions, 514 UK runners have finished the UTMB®, 59 of them women. Unfortunately the stats below don't include the number of runners who started the UTMB® so we cannot truly say whether British ultra-runners are any tougher than the rest!
