Race news: Bupa Great Yorkshire Run - Sheffield on Sunday September 29, 2013
The Bupa Great Yorkshire Run is giving local running clubs the chance to qualify for a dream trip to compete in Africa’s biggest road race this November
One winning team from the Great Run Club Challenge will compete against some of Ethiopia's star athletes at the Great Ethiopian Run on Sunday 24 November. They will also have a personal meeting with Haile Gebrselassie, the world’s greatest ever distance runner and a key figure in the organisation of the event.
Any running club can qualify for the chance to win the dream trip by entering the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run which returns to Sheffield on Sunday 29 September. Each club can enter as many runners as they like, and the qualifying club will be based on the average time of the fastest seven men and seven women to finish.
The club will then be placed in a draw, joining the qualifying clubs from the other Great Run events. The winner of the trip to Ethiopia will be randomly selected and announced in October.
David Newton, Nova International's Managing Director said: "The Great Run Club Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for British athletes to visit a country with a mythical history whilst also competing in one of the world's greatest road running events.
"The popularity and love of the Great Ethiopian Run means it attracts not only a massive field but over a million spectators each year. I'm sure the Brits who make the trip will never forget the experience."
The successful club will see their top fourteen contestants win an all-expenses five day trip at the Ya Ya Resort hotel complex just outside Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital.
Competing clubs at each event will also have the opportunity of clinching other awards: first team - £500 and 15 free entries to the following year’s event. Second and third places will also receive ten and five entries for the respective 2014 races.
