Race news: Hillingdon Half-Marathon - March 23, 2013
The 13-mile race will take place on March 23 next year, starting and finishing at Brunel University.
After a one-mile circuit of the campus, which was one of the stopping points for the Olympic torch in 2012, the runners – a maximum of 1,000 – will complete two circuits through Cowley, Yiewsley and Hillingdon.
James Shipley of ATW said: "Nothing has been in place like it for the last 10 years which seemed a shame since Hillingdon has been such a positive place for long-distance running. The original Olympic Marathon ran through the area, and the current five-mile record was also run in the borough."
That record belongs to Rob Denmark, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist. The Hillingdon Half Marathon might produce a notable time, but could also produce a lot of money for national and borough charities – plus the usual fancy-dress participants. The organisers have arranged for athletes to raise money for charity through Just Giving.
The race is just three weeks before the London Marathon, so ideal preparation for those in the final stages of their training schedule.
ATW has teamed up with Yelling Performance, a company owned by Olympian Liz Yelling and her husband, Martin, to offer training plans for beginner, intermediate and advanced runners, once registered. The training plans are online now at www.activetrainingworld.com, and you can enter the race at www.hillingdonhalf.co.uk.
Entry costs £20 for club affiliated runners and £22 for non-affiliates
Prizes will be awarded to the first three men and women to finish, and there will be team and age group prizes too.
