Event feature: Top brands, captive speakers and great racing makes the second Running Show at Sandown Park a real hit in 2013
The second edition of The Running Show has come and gone and we can once again look back on a very well received event with something for everyone, from new product launches to interactive workshops, to top advice from speakers covering all different aspects of the sport.
Over 100 represented brands filled the Sandown Park hall last weekend for the 2013 Running Show, partnered by two seminar theatres that drew large crowds throughout the weekend for talks and panel discussions. Particularly popular were talks by Mike Antoniades, The Running School, HIGH5 ‘s talks on Training and Nutrition, and Martin Yelling on pacing your perfect race.
The brands on show included Asics, Mizuno, Puma, Newton, On, Pearl Izumi, Human Race, Miles Stronger, HIGH5, Zipvit Sport to name just a few. Alongside the exhibitors, the interactive workshops proved to be a hit with visitors of which there were in excess of 3000 over the course of the weekend. These workshops included Running Technique with The Running School, Yoga for Runners with Emma Spencer-Goodier, and physiological testing with the Surrey Human Performance Institute.
Rob Henderson, marketing manager at Mizuno, was delighted with how the weekend went for his brand, saying: “We were really pleased with the response to the Mizuno products on show, especially our new Wave Rider shoes and the new Mizuno Breath Thermo apparel range. It is a great way for us to launch new items and inform the public about our products.”
It wasn’t all about exciting new kit on show, the races on Sunday morning hosted by aat Events once again drew in large numbers with 300 runners taking to the start of the 5 and 10k events. Feedback was hugely positive with runners really appreciating the loop around Sandown’s racecourse, as well as the stables and surrounding areas. The family 2k fun-run also proved very popular with children and parents of all ages getting involved and joining in the fun.

Event director, David Townsend, said: “The Running Show team really enjoyed meeting all the fantastic and enthusiastic runners and exhibitors that came to the show. We are already looking into ways to make the show bigger and better for 2014 and we will keep everybody informed of any developments.”
Feedback from visitors was on the whole hugely positive. Some visitor quotes include: “Great show and great race – organisation was first rate!”
“Really good show, with a variety of stalls and some real bargains to be had. The 10k is the icing on the cake.”
“Great weekend at The Running Show, well worth the trip from Scotland! The advice from Joel Enoch was worth it alone.”
