Race news: Brighton Half Marathon - Sunday, February 16, 2014

Four individuals speak on behalf of each of the official charities they are running for, sharing their personal, inspirational stories.

The Charity Ambassadors are supported with practical advice and receive sports products from Brighton Half Marathon and its partners, including ASICS, Runners Need, Lucozade and Studio57.

From beginner through to experienced runner and Personal-Best chaser, this year’s Charity Ambassadors include Danny Dwyer, for The Sussex Beacon charity. The Sussex Beacon are the organisers of Brighton Half Marathon and the headline charity. This makes it a unique for an event its size, underlining the fact the race is a key platform to raise funds and awareness for charity.

Danny Dwyer, a 38 year old Legal Agent from Brighton, is a long standing supporter of The Sussex Beacon and has been a volunteer fundraiser with the charity for three years. Danny will be running Brighton Half Marathon for The Sussex Beacon for the third time in 2014. Danny runs to keep fit and taking part in the Brighton Half Marathon gives him the motivation to train whilst allowing him to support his local charity and community.

Danny said:” ‘HIV has been part of my life for many years.  I often sit back and look over the volunteering work I have done and what I'm involved with currently in the community. When I see photos like this it only encourages me to keep motivated. Volunteering with the HIV Sector is a wonderful thing yet a rollercoaster of emotions. My support and commitment to The Sussex Beacon couldn't be any stronger. I do what I do to help people smile, to keep them motivated and to believe in themselves. I have met so many inspirational people through volunteering that have encouraged me to keep smiling myself and I NEVER want this journey to end!”

Anyone wishing to support Danny please visit www.justgiving.com/bhm14 to donate.  Find out more about The Sussex Beacon at www.sussexbeacon.org.uk .

Other Charity Ambassadors include Luisa Gretton from Brighton who represents RISE (www.riseuk.org.uk/), Judy Foote from Bromley who runs for WaterAid (www.wateraid.org/uk) and Aoife McCauley from Eastbourne who supports Scope (www.scope.org.uk/).

Public places for Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday 16th February are sold out but runners can still sign up to run for one of the official charities, including The Sussex Beacon at www.brightonhalfmarathon.com/charities
