Race report: Glow in the Park - Polesden Lacy, Saturday, January 25, 2014

Despite a freak gust of wind blowing almost half of the course infrastructure away just hours before the start 238 hardy competitors toed the line at the Glow in the Park 5km and 10km night time running events held at the beautiful Polesden Lacy Estate, Surrey.
“We were fortunate to be able to put the race on given the damage caused by the wind, but all credit to the votwo team and competitors who just got on with the job in hand without any fuss” said Ben Mason, votwo event director.
The challenging 5km course that comprised a mixture of road, grass land and muddy wooded trails was the toughest yet in the Glow in the Park series and the medals awarded at the finish were well earned indeed. Emily Horton from Surrey Downs Magazine said “I loved the event, it was fantastic and I’m looking forward to writing about it when I get back!”
Leading the charge in the Men’s 10km event was Toby Lambart but in the 5km a different Lambert (Calum, no relation!) took second place and he is only 13 years of age – one to watch for the future! As with all of the events in the Glow in the Park series excellent prizes of top of the range head torches were given out to the winners from Silva and Gatorade kindly provided refreshments both out on the course and at the finish.
The next scheduled event in the Glow in the Park Series is in Southampton on February 19th starting at 19:30. Details online here. That is taking place just after the re-arranged Glow in the Park Kingston Lacy, Dorset that had to be moved to February 7th after flooding caused the original January date to be postponed. Details of that race here.
