Race news: Entries open today for jogscotland One Big Weekend 2014

Starting guns at the ready-set your summer challenge and sign up for jogscotland One Big Weekend.
Entries open today for a series of four 5K runs, all over just one action packed weekend. The races in Aberdeen, Perth, Glasgow and Edinburgh are designed to give runners of all abilities from more than 500 jogscotland running clubs across the country the perfect chance to get together. But the timed runs on August 2 and August 3 are also open to non jogscotland members and anyone aged 11 or above.
Billy Mitchell, head of jogscotland said: “Come join us for fitness and fun over one fabulous summer weekend.
“The jogscotland One Big Weekend is open to all levels of running ability. Just like our jog groups, the events are friendly and supportive. They’re a great chance to beat a personal best time, raise money for your favourite charity or simply enjoy crossing the line with friends. After last year’s success it’s fast becoming a permanent exciting addition to the Scottish running calendar.”

Last year, thousands of runners took part in the first jogscotland One Big Weekend running festival with most completing just one of the 5K races. But superfit Susan Stewart of Peebles went one step further and completed all FOUR of jogscotland’s One Big Weekend races as part of a challenge to complete 50 stunning sporting challenges before she hit the big 50. She lined up the non stop schedule to raise awareness about the urgent need for organ donors after her husband Alan’s life was saved by a kidney transplant. And schoolteacher Alan- who received a new kidney from his sister Kathleen- felt so well he decided to join her by completing all four jogscotland One Big Weekend races too.
Susan said: “We had a great time doing all four events. “We were tired but really exhilarated at the end of our fourth and final race in Glasgow. The races were really well organised with very different warm ups at each one to keep us on our toes. Our aim at the start of the 50 events was to complete 50 events between us but we are actually going to manage to have completed 50 events each by my birthday on July 12 this year. We’re definitely nifty at 50.”
All runners who finish receive a running belt- great for storing keys, cash or a phone while out training- as well as a medal and goody bag.

Entries cost £14.78 for jogscotland members and £16.78 for non jogscotland members. But sign up before midnight on Sunday February 23 and you will qualify for an EARLY BIRD OFFER which is £12.78 for jogscotland members and £14.78 for non members.
