Race news: Surrey Half Marathon - March 9, 2014
The inaugural Surrey Half marathon is finally upon us. The 5,000 strong running field will start 10:00 March 9, 2014 from Guildford Spectrum Leisure Centre.
Entry closes 24 February; so if you want to enter please sign up now at www.surreyhalfmarathon.co.uk
The route follows the closed roads through Burpham, Jacobs Well, along New Inn Lane, past Woking FC, into and around Woking town centre and back to Guildford.
Runners will also benefit from the five Timex Pace runners who’ll be running at five specific paces.
The route will be lined with 6 live bands including samba, jazz choir and live rock bands. And local professional cycle team WyndyMilla is leading out the runners.
“Local residents have really got behind the event and we hope to create a fantastic atmosphere,” said Toby Jenkins Race Director, “and it’s great to see Guildford and Woking Borough Councils working together in allowing the event to take place.”
A kids 800m race also starts shortly after the main event, in the Spectrum’s athletics track. Kids from 6-12 years are welcome to signup and race in the 2 waves from 10:20am.
Spectators are welcome to join in by cheering the runners along the route or at one of our Spectator Hotspots. Details can be found on the website.
