Race preview: BUFF® presents its main challenge for 2014 - The BUFF® Epic Trail Aigestortes - Spain, August 2, 2014

An epic adventure which is set to be extremely demanding and a true test for athletes from all over the world in a glorious location with an unique atmosphere.

Cumulative Ascent: 8,000 m
Minimum Altitude: 1,094 m
Maximum Altitude: 2,751 m
Maximum Grade: 56,2%
Grade Average: 15,2%

Taking place on 2nd August 2014, the race will start and finish in Barruera (Vall de Bohi, Alta Ribagorca, Lleida) and take the runners around the Aiguestortes and Sant Maurici Lake National Park. Covering 100km of mountain paths, with a cumulative vertical climb of 8,000m and maximum gradients of 56% the route will prove challenging to even the most experienced trail runners.
Due to the nature of the course and for safety reasons, the race will be strictly limited to 350 participants. It is also hoped that the race, which is currently being assessed, will be deemed a qualifier for the Ultra Trail do Montblanc (UTMB).
Elite athletes, Anton Krupicka (USA), Arnau Julia (ESP), Joe Grant (USA) and Nuria Picas (ESP) have already confirmed their participation in the race and on 11th March the online entry system will be opened.
The BUFF® Epic Trail Aigestortes has been designed around the core values of environmental respect and responsibility along guidelines shared by BUFF® and by all the sponsors, volunteers and runners invovled. The event will be certified with the “Mountain Parks” stamp.
