Race news: Royal Windsor Half Marathon & River Trail Run - May 25, 2014
Runners of all abilities and backgrounds are looking forward to the forthcoming Royal Windsor Half Marathon, taking place in this picturesque and historic town and its surrounding areas on Sunday 25th May, but if you haven’t entered yet, you’ll have to act fast as entries will be closing at midnight on Thursday 7th May 2014.
This will be the 2nd edition of a popular new running event and with over 1,500 runners expected to be on the start-line, it will also promises be the biggest and the best version to date
The Royal Windsor Half Marathon (including new 6 km and 10 km races on the same day) creates the perfect opportunity to experience the historically picturesque Thames Valley. With an idyllic start and finish at the foot of Windsor Castle, the entirely flat river route guides you upstream to Maidenhead before heading back towards Windsor. Mainly run along river trail paths, the course incorporates many of the key landmarks that have made Royal Berkshire and its surrounding area so famous. These include the River Thames, Windsor Race Course, Boveney Lock, the 12th century Chapel of St Mary Magdalene, Oakley Court Hotel, Bray Film Studios, 2012 Olympic Games venue Dorney Lake, the lovely village of Bray, Jubilee River, Eton College and of course the Royal Windsor Castle.
It is an absolute must for anyone looking for a break from the pavement grind and a change of scenery.
The event is not designed to be a gruelling cross country through deep mud and puddles, but aims to be a fun, friendly and fast trail run along one of England’s most historic courses. The onsite facilities, commentary and music provide plenty to keep your supporters and little ones entertained, ensuring a day out for all the family.
Entries to the Royal Windsor Half Marathon, plus the new 6km and 10km races are open now and entry is available through the event website: www.windsorhalfmarathon.co.uk
Entries close at mid-night Thursday 7th May 2014
