1,445 superheroes and villains took part in the 10th annual Heroes Run yesterday. As part of the celebration, the Villains crashed the party with their rival Villains Run. Both teams lined up against each other in the ultimate race between good and evil! We would like to say a huge, huge thank you to the men, women and children who made our 10 year anniversary so special. It was a truly fantastic day with wonderful weather and even better costumes.
We are delighted to announce that the HEROES successfully defended their turf against the VILLAINS, winning both the 5km and the 10km team competitions by being the first team to get 100 finishers in each race. The VILLAINS are sore losers and will be back next year to make amends! Most importantly, the race has so far raised over £14,000 for Pass It On Africa and the sponsorship money is still coming in.
Heroes Run is the brain child of artist Matt Lambert (33) and Events co-ordinator James Macdonald (37), co-founders of the volunteer run charity Pass It On Africa. As the principle fundraiser for the charity, HEROES RUN has had a huge impact on their annual fundraising efforts and therefore our projects in Africa.
Since 2005 three schools have been built in Kenya, Ghana and the Gambia respectively, ensuring that 1000's of disadvantaged children have the chance of an education. Over the years the race has also benefited 23 other charities including the Teenage Cancer Trust, The Terrence Higgins Trust and Right To Play by raising over £120,000 for these worthy causes.
