Mimi Anderson explains why she and Samantha Gash are embarking on a 2350km run across the Freedom Trail in South Africa
Mimi Anderson holds the world record for running from John O’Groats to Lands End and for crossing Ireland on foot, she’s run a double Badwater, double Comrades and a double Grand Union Canal. So when she says ‘this will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done’ it really means something.
In September Mimi and Samantha Gash embark on their Freedom Runners run, 2350km in 32 days along the Freedom Trail in South Africa, the equivalent of 64 back to back marathons (HERE). They are doing this in collaboration with Save the Children to raise money to set up a social enterprise to help keep girls in Sub-Saharan Africa in school after they reach puberty, and to educate them about puberty, menstruation, safe sex and HIV.
Watch this great video by Santiago Pilgrim of Mimi talking about the project (which has taken three years to get off the ground), the shocking need for it and then please support it if you can.
