Edinburgh’s Cramond Promenade was the stage for the concluding event as part of the second jogscotland One Big Weekend running festival. jogscotland One Big Weekend is a series of 5k timed runs in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth. Saturday saw the first event kick off in Aberdeen, then move on to Perth for the second event at 6.30pm in the evening. The third event of the weekend took place in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow which then concluded in Edinburgh, where hundreds of runners enjoyed the scenic coastal run on, Sunday 3 August, as they took part in the 5k race around the prom.

It saw Scott Dolan, aged 43, from Edinburgh, raced to the finish line at the 5K, in just 17 minutes and 43 seconds. As a Scottish Athletics Member runner, Scott was elated to win the race which is one of four summer races in four cities across Scotland this weekend.

Scott said: “After coming third in last years event it was great to win the race this year. The route itself was fast and flat, ideal for a PB. With stunning coastal views and friendly competition from fellow runners it was a pleasant and enjoyable evening all round”.

First female to cross the finish line was Sandra Middlemass, aged 42, who finished in 22 minutes and 26 seconds.

As well as the Edinburgh event, there were races in Aberdeen, Perth & Glasgow this weekend. The races were designed to give runners from more than 500 jogscotland running clubs across the country a chance to meet up. The timed runs were also open to non jogscotland members.

Billy Mitchell, head of jogscotland said: “It was great to see jogscotland members rising to the One Big Weekend challenge. I know how much hard work goes into just getting to the start line.  A big thanks to all the Jog Leaders who have given their time, enthusiasm and expertise to help so many to achieve their goals.  Every week, over 500 jogscotland groups provide a fantastic, supportive atmosphere that fosters physical activity and healthy choices for our members – and we’re growing fast.  One Big Weekend has been an ideal challenge for many – my congratulations to all those taking part.”

Every runner received a sports towel, a weighty medal, goody bag and can now look forward to their results being posted on the website within the next 48 hours.

James Quinlan, Event Coordinator, said: “We’re delighted to be working alongside jogscotland to host this exciting weekend of events in Aberdeen, Perth, Edinburgh & Glasgow. One Big Weekend is open to all levels of running ability. It was great to see people from all over the country come together and celebrate their love of running while enjoying the different venues. We hope everyone had fun this weekend and that jogscotland One Big Weekend will become an exciting addition to the running calendar.”

Running in all four jogscotland One Big Weekend Events, Owain Williams, 32, weighed 19 stone before his weight loss (HERE). Now a trim 13 stone, the 6ft 1in website developer says running has transformed his life. He was even on a run the first time he met his wife, Mandy.

Owain managed to secure places in all four events gaining a first place at Aberdeen and Glasgow and second place at Perth and Edinburgh events.

The One Big Weekend team managed to catch up with Owain at the Edinburgh One Big Weekend. He said: "Training for four runs in four cities for one fabulous weekend helped keep me in shape. I wanted to show that anything is possible. I think jogscotland One Big Weekend is brilliant. It’s all about inspiring people to get out there and enjoy being fit.”
