Women’s Running 10K Race Series - Saturday, September 6, 2014

Women from all over the UK have been invited to follow in the footsteps of Britain’s best athletes by taking part in the Women’s Running 10K Race Series when it hits Scotland next month. The race will take place at Strathclyde Country Park on Saturday 6th September.

Hundreds of women are already said to be joining the starting line up at the same venue where Team GB favourites Jodie Stimpson and Vicky Holland found well earned success at the Commonwealth Games 2014. Organisers of the Women’s Running 10K Race Series, Women’s Running hope that both Team GB and Team Scotland’s success at the Games will inspire the inner athlete in women to sign up to the summer race.

The women’s only 10K race series has been making its way across the UK and has already seen over 3,000 runners take part.  Mary Hadley, 45 from Ashton took part in the Liverpool event which took place at Sefton Park on Saturday 26th July. Mary said: “I ran the Women’s Running 10K in Liverpool, what an amazing run. It was so well organised and the marshals were fantastic and very encouraging. The welcome back to the finish was so emotional and crossing the finish line, we were all made to feel really special having our names called out and medals being put on us. The goody bag is fantastic and I would 1000% recommend the run to anyone.”

Christina Macdonald , Editor of Women’s Running magazine who are behind the race said: “We are so excited that our next event is going to be at Strathcylde Country Park where so much sporting success has taken place this year. We think that the runners will be inspired to push that bit harder knowing that their sporting heroes competed there. We are very much looking forward to the race next month and we can’t wait to meet all of the women taking part.”

The event is perfect for runners of all abilities with the fast, flat course that takes runners on a tour of the woodlands of Strathclyde Country Park. There will be a team of experienced and friendly Women’s Running pacers to help runners achieve their race day goals, whether it’s to set a new PB or just to finish the run the team will be there supporting runners every step of the way to achieving either sub 50 minutes, 55 minutes, 60 minutes or 70 minutes.

Fitness fanatic, Nell Mcandrew is the ambassador for the race series this year. Nell said: “I’m a huge supporter of the Women’s Running10K Race Series because it’s about empowering women to challenge themselves to achieve great things. A 10K is a great distance to run because it offers something for everyone, beginners can run a 10K as the furthest distance that they have ever run and more experience runners can use the 10K as a training run for a longer distance.”

The race experience also includes a warm up, led by an expert from Women’s Running Magazine, a technical t-shirt, and a high quality drawstring goody bag full of goodies worth over £30 including a medal for every finisher.

The Scottish event is still open for entries priced at £26, to sign up please go to www.wr10k.co.uk

The finale race in the series will take place on Saturday 27th September at Finsbury Park in London.
