Race feature: The Color Run presented by Dulux - London, Sunday September 28, 2014

Color Runners will take over Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Sunday September 28th. Dubbed ‘The happiest 5k on the planet’, The Color Run is not timed, meaning groups of friends can walk, jog, dance and party their way along the course at any pace. At each kilometre, colour explosions cover runners in kaleidoscopic fashion before DJs entertain the crowd in the Colour Festival after the finish line.
Race entries are available at www.TheColorRun.co.uk at £25 for individuals and £23 p/person for group bookings (There is a £4.99 cost for postage and packaging of entry pack).
Event organiser Joe Rafferty said: “We know that our London Color Runners love a party, so what better place to throw the biggest colour celebration of the year. We can all remember the likes of Jess Ennis and Mo Farah winning gold back in 2012, but we’ve got blue, green, orange and pink. And our music’s awesome!”
Ann Marie O’Riordan, Head of Marketing, UK & Ireland for presenting sponsor Dulux said: “The energy and enthusiasm of The Color Run has really shown us just how much colour can uplift and inspire the runners and that’s what we’re really passionate about – seeing colour have a positive impact on peoples’ lives and the places we live in.
“We’re proud to be presenting The Color Run in the UK for a second time this year and we look forward to a summer of colour with more runs happening across the UK.”

Why is running good for you?
Healthy body, healthy mind: not only does running keep your body fit and healthy, but it can make you happy! Exercise releases happy chemicals, known as endorphins, which inspire feelings of enjoyment and happiness.
What can I do to help my running?
Running is a whole-body exercise so it’s important to help your body with other types of exercise too. You can do strength & flexibility exercises or resistance training, but most importantly, be sure to give your body a good stretch after your run for optimum recovery & performance!
How often do I need to run?
It totally depends on what your goal is, but any running is good running! It can take time to build endurance and strength, but stick with it and you’re sure to see quick improvements.
Should I run outside or on the treadmill?
Both options have their own benefits, so why not do a bit of both? Running outside is a more realistic training environment and the changing scenery can be a welcome distraction. On the other hand, treadmill running gives you a more controlled environment and you don’t have to worry about getting caught in the rain!
What should I eat before a run?
It’s important to give your body the fuel it needs to perform so a healthy snack such as a cereal bar or piece of fruit will energise you well. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day too!
How do I stay motivated during a run?
If you’re raising money for charity, remind yourself of how many people will benefit from your achievement! If you’re running to be healthy, think about how much good you’re doing for your heart and lungs, not to mention all those happy endorphins rushing to your brain!
