Sure Run to the Beat, London’s Music 10K, saw runners take to the streets of Wembley today pushing for personal bests, racing against friends and raising money for charity, spurred on by live DJs at 14 music stages dotted along the route.

Thousands of music loving runners set off from Wembley Park, home to one of Britain’s most iconic sporting venues. After runners crossed the finish line and collected their well-deserved medal, they made their way to the Festival Village to celebrate with friends and family. The party atmosphere was orchestrated by Sigma, Tom Parker and Nick Grimshaw who each performed a live set on the main stage and their tired legs were soon forgotten as the DJs dropped the beat.

This year’s Sure Run to the Beat boasted a festival-worthy line-up including urban sound system Panjabi Hit Squad, BBC Radio 1’s Nihal, student hero Hutch, Capital Xtra’s Ras Kwame and East
Village Radio’s Bobby Friction. With sounds from the best in Urban, R&B, House, Rock, Hip Hop and Dancehall music, runners were motivated every stride of the way.

Festival finish act SIGMA commented ‘It’s a great day for us today performing at Sure Run to the Beat, with our single ‘Changing’ being released and we’ve had a fantastic time, the crowd were amazing.

Tom Parker, one part of boy band The Wanted said ‘I’ve only just started to DJ in the past couple of months and it’s kind or rekindled my love for it. It’s been great being at Sure Run to the Beat today and to get involved in something that’s for such a good cause. I’ve enjoyed showing some encouragement to the runners and spurring them on’.

The talent didn’t end there with stand-up comedian Matt Richardson, model and presenter Ashley James, TV personality AJ Odudu and model and TV presenter Pips Taylor all taking part.

TV personality and radio DJ, AJ Odudu said ‘Great beats, fun run, motivators, cheerleaders and ice cream on the finish line. Top notch event. I’ve really enjoyed it’.

A vast range of runners tried their hand at the 10K from the youngest runner, a fresh 16 years old, to the more seasoned runners at an impressive 74 years old, coming from over 35 different countries.

James Robinson, Managing Director of IMG Challenger World, Sure Run to the Beat organisers said: “We are thrilled to host the event in Wembley Park for the first time and to have such a wide array of participants from all ages and fitness levels, some even travelling from across the world to be at this year’s event. The music is what makes this event so special and really does help the runners to achieve their goals and have a great time. Well done to everyone who took part.”

Gary Bell, Commercial Manager, Quintain said: “Wembley Park is synonymous with crowd pulling events and world class entertainment so it was a pleasure to welcome the runners, along with their friends and families to Sure Run to the Beat; they brought a fantastic energy to the day and created an event to remember.”

Fundraising is an integral part of Sure Run to the Beat with celebrities and amateurs helping to raise more than £500,000 every year, most notably for the event’s official charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research are the official charity for Sure Run to the Beat for the 7th year in a row. Last year was one of the most successful running events in the charity’s recent history with over 2,000 participants collectively raising more than £400,000 to invest in improving the lives of blood cancers patients across the UK.
