Race report: The Color Run presented by Dulux - Saturday, September 20, 2014

Brighton was doused in colour twice as more than 10,000 runners of all ages, shapes and sizes took part in The Color Run presented by Dulux.
The event returned to Madeira Drive for the second consecutive year but in a UK first, the Brighton edition of The Color Run hosted two separate events on the same day. Overwhelming demand saw the original event sell out record numbers in just eight weeks.
All day long, participants covered the seafront in colour - going bigger, bolder and brighter than ever before. The untimed 5km course had friends, families and colleagues, from all over Brighton and the surrounding area, jogging, walking and dancing their way through bursts of coloured powder at each kilometre along the iconic promenade.
An incredible party atmosphere greeted participants as they crossed the finish line, with DJs and MCs entertaining the crowds, as more flashes of colour filled the skies at the Color Festival Area.
With a focus on healthiness, friendship and community spirit the event known as ‘the happiest 5k on the planet’ more than lived up to its reputation in Brighton.
Proving that everyone can enjoy the colour crazy party, nine year-old Joshua Williams, who has hypermobility syndrome, took to the seafront to get covered in colour. Joshua inspired the city by completing the entirety of the 5km course with his mother, finishing the day head-to-toe in powder and with a huge smile on his face!

Event organiser Joe Rafferty commented: “We didn’t think it could get any better than last year, but yet again we’ve been blown away by the spirit of the people here in Brighton. It’s no wonder the city is often spoken about as one of the happiest places to live!
“As we continue to grow, we want to bring the joy and happiness of The Color Run to as many people as possible and it’s been great to revisit the cities that made it so much fun last year.
“The atmosphere on Maderia Drive has been electric all day long and we’d like to thank everyone who’s taken part today for making this another event to remember. We look forward to seeing everyone again next time we’re in Brighton!”
Ann Marie O’Riordan, Head of Marketing, UK & Ireland for presenting sponsor Dulux said: “The energy and enthusiasm on show at The Color Run has really shown us just how much colour can uplift and inspire the runners. That’s what we’re really passionate about – seeing colour have a positive impact on peoples’ lives and the places we live in.”
“We’re proud to be presenting The Color Run in the UK for a second time this year and we look forward to a summer of colour with more runs happening across the UK.”
The final UK instalment of The Color Run in 2014 will be at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, next weekend (September 28th).
