Race feature: The Windsor Running Festival incorporating the Running4Women Windsor 10K and the Windsor Half Marathon - September 27 & 28, 2014

The Windsor Running Festival takes places in Windsor Great Park this Saturday and Sunday, with thousands of runners expected to take on the 10K and half marathon challenge over the weekend.
Incorporating both the Running4Women Windsor 10K this Saturday 27th September and the Windsor Half Marathon on Sunday 28th September, the race village for both events is in Windsor Great Park and offers a range of entertainment and catering options for the whole family, plus great facilities for the runners. There is also free onsite parking for runners and supporters near the race village.
Places to the Running4Women Windsor 10K are still available and runners will also be able to sign up in the race village until 11.00 am on race day. One of the first women-only events in the UK, the Running4Women events encourage women of all levels and all ages to get involved and be active, whilst club runners from the surrounding areas use it as a part of their autumn training or racing. Entry fees are £14.50 for UKA members and £16.50 for unaffiliated runners, and the full event details including the Runners’ Information Booklet are available from the website www.running4women.com. The Running4Women Windsor 10K starts at 12.00 noon.
The sold out Windsor Half Marathon takes place for the 32nd time on Sunday 28th September and it is one of the most iconic and longest established races in the UK. With the start and finish on The Long Walk, stunning views of Windsor Castle and the 13.1 miles run on traffic free roads around Windsor Great Park, the Windsor Half Marathon is recognised as one of the most prestigious events in the British sporting calendar. The start time of the Windsor Half Marathon 2014 is 1.00 pm. Further race details can be found on the website www.runwindsor.com
It has been confirmed that last year’s winner Kojo Kyereme of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers will be on the Windsor Half Marathon start line to defend his title, and Samantha Amend is a strong contender for the women’s title with an anticipated sub 80 minutes finish time. Amend is also currently leading the runbritain Grand Prix 2014 rankings.
Race Director Peter Hier commented: “The Windsor Running Festival is nearly upon us, and we are looking forward to welcoming thousands of runners to Windsor Great Park this weekend. There will be free onsite parking for runners and spectators, and it would be great to see lots of supporters cheering on the runners and lining The Long Walk, which sees the start and finish of both events.
“I would like to express a big thank you to everyone who continues to support the original Windsor Half Marathon as well as our women’s only event. Windsor Great Park is a unique location with stunning views across the park and of Windsor Castle, and we are looking forward to a great race weekend. Good luck to all the runners!”
