Spartan Race names Richard Pringle as Race Director for Spartan Race UK

by Press Release
Friday 5th December 2014

Race news: Spartan Race, the world’s premier obstacle race series, announced today that Richard Pringle, one of the sport’s top British coaches and athletes, has been promoted to Race Director for Spartan Race UK

Pringle, 37, who had been serving as Operations Director for Spartan Race UK, will continue to oversee race operations and will replace Dan Tuffnell in his leadership capacity and as liaison for Spartan Race.

“Richard Pringle has done an outstanding job this year helping us design challenging courses and produce world-class events throughout the UK,” said Lee Goss, the General Manager for Spartan Race International. “Richard is widely respected within the obstacle racing community, is an experienced elite coach, and is the embodiment of Spartan Race. We’re thrilled to expand his role with the organization, and with Richard at the helm, Spartan Race UK is preparing to deliver its biggest race calendar ever in 2015.”

Richard Pringle said today: “I’m so excited to continue my relationship with Spartan Race UK and to have a chance to build on the great progress we made in 2014. It’s a great honour to be heading up Spartan Race UK, and my love and passion for the Spartan brand and for obstacle racing as a whole will make the races next season our best yet.”

Pringle, who was born in Hastings, East Sussex, has toured the UK extensively, competing in or attending dozens of different obstacle races, and he brings all this experience, as both a competing athlete and as a top coach, to bear in his new Spartan role. A distinguished sportsman and athlete in his own right, Pringle has studied Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts for six years. A keen badminton player, a former club rugby player, and a former club runner with 10 half-marathon medals to his name, he is also an advanced personal trainer.

According to Goss, “Spartan Race is growing rapidly internationally, and has been on the lookout for great senior talent globally.  Naturally, this included the UK following the release of Richard Lee from his duties and responsibilities here early this year.  Richard Pringle definitely fits the description of what we look for among our leaders, is a big advancement for Spartan Race UK, and someone we can build a solid team around.”

Spartan Race UK is set to embark on a record-breaking season in 2015; delivering its most ambitious race schedule ever with seven race weekends and nine events, beginning on May 16 with the Spartan Sprint at Allianz Park.
