Race news: The Fort William Mountain Festival 2015 - February 18-22, 2015

Celebrate the wild at The Fort William Mountain Festival 2015, presented by Jöttnar, five days of inspiration and entertainment, action and adventure!  Staged in and around the bustling Highland town of Fort William, in the heart of Lochaber, The Outdoor Capital of the UK, from Wednesday 18 to Sunday 22 February 2015, this is an experience not to miss.  Enjoy the best winter walking, climbing and skiing conditions of the year and be inspired by the packed programme of films, speakers, workshops and exhibitions.

As the people of Lochaber call on the Snow Giants to bring snow to the mountains the full programme for the 2015 Fort William Mountain Festival has been announced.  Some of the best inspirational speakers made up of top climbers, and mountaineers, together with adventure film screenings, ski mountaineering and hill running races and mountain skills workshops.

Mike Pescod, Chairman of the Highland Mountain Culture Association, organisers of the Festival, said: “The unique landscape found in The Outdoor Capital of the UK is the best place to experience the outdoors. The Fort William Mountain Festival celebrates our wild landscape and the opportunities it presents. It’s guaranteed to inspire, entertain and educate.

“The mountains and glens that surround us influence our culture in many ways. We want to promote the value of the landscape of Lochaber as the best destination in the UK to live, work and play. The Mountain Festival includes a superb line up of top climbers and explorers, mountain films, inspirational speakers and skills workshops. It’s not just for adventure addicts though, anyone who appreciates the landscape of the Outdoor Capital of the UK will find something for them in the Mountain Festival.

“Celebrating the landscape that surrounds us in Fort William is the inspiration behind the Mountain Festival. Whether it is the beauty of the landscape, our engagement with it or the opportunities we find in it, celebrating our natural capital is the vision of The Outdoor Capital of the UK.”

For the runners:

The Fort William Mountain Festival programme includes a running night, with Findlay Wild and Nicky Spinks (www.mountainfestival.co.uk/programme/hill-running-night/).

There is also a Runduro event (based on the popular mtb enduro). The Fort William Runduro is a new creative "multi-stage" running event taking in some of the areas most popular running routes.  It's a superb running journey on some of the areas best trails, linking up Fort William and Glen Nevis in the heart of the Outdoor Capital of the UK.

The 8 timed stages make up 15km of the 22km route.

The unique format breaks the route down into stages. Race the stages, enjoy the transitions and await your cumulative time for the days racing.

Participants have the opportunity to relax, regroup with their friends and refocus between stages. Participants are allowed to walk or jog between stages. Just like our mountain bike buddies do at the Enduro format races, being social is encouraged!  We hope that the new race format will open up the course to runners of all abilities.
