Science in Sport (SiS) launches new whey protein

SiS will also launch a new range, SiS Protein, which will sit alongside existing SiS GO and SiS REGO ranges. SiS Protein will focus on helping athletes rebuild muscle whereas SiS REGO will continue to focus on helping recovery for endurance athletes. SiS GO will continue to fuel and hydrate athletes.

The new product’s formulation provides a source of rapidly digestible protein through a blend of high quality whey protein isolate and concentrate, with an amino acid profile which supports lean muscle growth and maintenance.

SiS Whey Protein will be available in four flavours (chocolate, strawberry, banana and vanilla) and two sizes (1kg and 2kg).

Each serving contains 22-23g of protein, depending on the flavour. Whey protein has one of the highest-known protein digestion rates, and has a high leucine content; an amino acid which serves not only as a building block for new muscle protein, but also increases the rate of muscle protein synthesis.

SiS Whey Protein is a great tasting, convenient way to ensure you have enough protein in your diet. For individuals that exercise regularly and want to promote lean muscle tissue, around 1.4-1.6g of protein per kilo of body mass is recommended. For a 75kg male who trains regularly, that would equate to 120g of protein per day. A graduated intake of 20-25g of protein every 3-4 hours throughout the day is recommended by sports nutritionists in order to support lean muscle mass; the body can only process up to 25g of protein at a time.

SiS Whey Protein has been designed and developed at SiS’s renowned Innovation Centre in Nelson, Lancashire and is Informed-Sport accredited. Building on the expertise which has seen SiS fuel over 40 medal-winning athletes, the new product has been tried and tested by SiS’s elite ambassadors including Sir Chris Hoy, Helen Jenkins and the GB Rowing Team.

SiS Elite Consultant Sir Chris Hoy commented: “No matter what you are training for, nutrition is key to performance. You need a product you can trust, that’s why I use SiS. Throughout my career, protein has been a key element of my training regime and I’m pleased to work with SiS on the new SiS Protein range.”

Luke Heeney, New Product Director at Science in Sport said: “Protein is such an important element of sports nutrition. SiS Whey Protein has been specifically designed to contribute to athletes’ lean muscle mass growth and maintenance, and we’re confident that its benefits will be experienced by both current and new SiS users.”

SiS Whey Protein 1kg will cost £29.99 and SiS Whey Protein 2kg will cost £54.99. Special introductory prices of £22.49 for 1kg and £41.24 for 2kg are available on the SiS website.

SiS Whey Protein will be available to purchase on Monday 12th January 2015 from www.scienceinsport.com
