Race for Life launches the first women-only marathon in the UK, and is - calling all women to unite and help beat cancer sooner

Cancer Research UK is stepping up a gear and urging all women to stand together by signing up to Race for Life’s very first Half and Full Marathon.

Taking place on Sunday 4th October in Lee Valley Park, London, participants can chose between the Full or Half Marathon as Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life challenges women to take on the female-only event and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Standing alongside Race for Life 5k, 10k and Pretty Muddy series of events, Race for Life Marathon is designed for women who didn’t think they had a Marathon in them.  It aims to support runners every step of the way and be the most accessible and supportive Marathon in the UK.

Everyone taking part in Race for Life Marathon has their own story and will be encouraged to wear a back sign to celebrate and remember loved ones who have fought cancer.  By uniting in their common goal, women across the UK will raise vital funds for research and help unite in the charge against cancer.

Anthony Newman, Director of Product Marketing at Race for Life said: ‘’Twenty years ago Race for Life changed the face of women’s running in the UK, and we’re delighted to be trail-blazing once again with the UK’s first ever women only Marathon. We hope thousands of women will join us for the journey of a lifetime to unleash the Marathon in them.

Every pound raised at the Race for Life Marathon will help fund our life-saving research into all 200 types of cancer, affecting men, women and children. By encouraging women to take part in the UK’s first women-only marathon and fundraise for us, we hope to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”

Sign up to Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life Marathon at www.raceforlife.org and we will beat cancer sooner
