Race news: Checkpoints Race is the first race of its kind which allows runners around the world to compete in teams for the chance to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime finale in the French Alps. Marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe has endorsed the race and will support the global adventure
All runners, all connected, all competitors!
Runners are increasingly using connected plat form such as Garmin, Strava, Nike+, MapMyRun, Runtastic, etc to record their efforts.
Now Checkpoints Race, the first Social Running League, connects with the most popular applications and invites runners from around the globe to go one step further and participate in an innovative, exciting, connected, worldwide race.
Runners and their supporters can contribute now to the Checkpoints Race crowd funding campaign and be part of creating the most fantastic finale. The more teams that take part in the challenge, the more spectacular the finale will be.
How to take part in the worldwide social experience
Connected through the Checkpoints Race app, men and women of all ages, will unite in teams of 5 competitors.
Through a 5-month connected race, from May to September 2015, the teams will compete to qualify for a final race in the Alps in France.
Race ambassador Paula Radcliffe gives the race her seal of approval and says: "What's great about this race is that you don't necessarily need to be an Elite to get a chance of winning; if you've got a great team of supporters who run for you, you have as much of a chance of winning".
Victory, a team sport
Checkpoints Race is a race where everyone is a hero as it rewards a collective physical performance.
Every team strives to gain Energy Points, which consist of a mix of
-
Team members’ individual runs (distance, speed, elevation etc) ;
-
Team supporters’ runs (the more supporters that run for you, the more points your team gets) ;
-
Random and playful running challenges, which will be presented to teams via the Checkpoint Race app throughout the 5 months.
To increase the chance of being one of the top 50 teams to qualify for the final race, each team will need to create and encourage a community of fans to become their supporters. The more supporters the team recruits, the more points they will earn, which increases their chance of qualifying for the finale.
An epic finale : a completely live and interactive race
The 50 teams with the most Energy Points will qualify for an all-expenses paid final race at the heart of Alpe d’Huez in the French Alps, at more than 1800 meters altitude, from 25th to 27th September 2015.
250 runners will compete in a breath-taking environment for a final 24-hour team relay.
Jean-Baptiste Brette, co-founder of Checkpoints Race: “Our ambition is to make the world run together and to share a social and connected experience.
