Race news: The 26.2 Team Challenge - Sunday, June 14, 2015

Looking to take part in your first marathon but can’t quite pluck up the courage to go the full distance? What if you could complete the full 26.2 mile race in a relay team? Today it is announced that the 26.2 Team Challenge is open for entries and set to take place in Maidenhead’s Braywick Park on Sunday 14 June 2015.

The event, just a 30 minute train ride from London Paddington, offers the chance for friends, families and colleagues to enter in teams of 10 if they so wish to take on a 2.62 mile leg each. And, for those looking for a sterner test, smaller teams are also welcome. In 2014, one runner decided to tackle the whole course by himself!

Teams from across the country descended on the 2014 edition of the event including British Airways and Active Health Clinics, who created quite the spectacle, taking on the course dressed as super heroes, fruit and veg, and cartoon characters. One runner, who donned Toy Story’s Mr. Potato Head fancy dress commented: “It was fantastic to take part in such a fun and community orientated event. We raised over £2,000 for the Wallace and Gromit Children’s Charity and won the prize for the best fancy dress.”

Chris Donald, Race Director at organiser, Purple Patch Running comments: “The 26.2 Team Challenge provides a great opportunity for groups to come together, raise money for charity, and take on the stunning route around Berkshire’s Braywick Park, which starts and finishes on the local athletics track. The event is perfect for seasoned runners looking for something a bit different in addition to those looking for their first running event. The spectator support over the previous few years has been fantastic and we hope this year’s event will be the biggest in its history. We look forward to seeing you all on race day.”

Starting at 2pm on Sunday, June 14, 2015, all runners will receive a commemorative race medal. Entry fees cost £125 per team (£150 after March 31st 2015).
