Sunday the 7th of June saw 'almost' perfect conditions for the 200 runners lined up in this years Scafell Pike Trail Marathon.

Pre race favourite (Salomon International) Ricky Lightfoot hit the front showing his intentions from the start establishing a healthy lead climbing to the summit of Scafell Pike in 1:51:27, nearly 25 minutes ahead of second place runner Matty Brennan. Returning to Styhead, past the impressive backdrop of Great End, a fast descent led back into the Borrowdale valley, before one final climb to Watendlath, before the final stretch to Keswick.

Crossing the finish line in 3:40:41 Lightfoot knocked nearly three minutes off his own course record, set at the inaugural event in 2013, and was comfortably ahead of second place by an hour.

Speaking afterwards Ricky stated: “I love the Scafell Trail Marathon, it's up there with the best, slick organisation too, now just for some sunshine!”

One spectator commented afterwards “I watched him descend across the boulders and he just appeared to be gliding across them, it was really inspiring”.
