Race news: Three women to receive full support package ahead of Maidenhead Half Marathon - Sunday September 6, 2015
Women’s sport has been given a makeover this year by Sport England’s ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, which encourages more women to get active. Purple Patch Running are delighted to announce they have been confirmed as a partner to the campaign, and are now on the lookout for three women to receive a This Girl Can package for the Maidenhead Half Marathon on September 6, 2015 which will include coaching and support from the experts.
The number of male runners across the UK currently exceeds female runners by over 300,000* and Purple Patch want to redress that balance by encouraging women and girls to take up the sport. The three selected women will receive a This Girl Can package which includes race entry, expert coaching and nutritional advice from Purple Patch Running instructors Chris and Claire Donald, running kit and sports massage. They will also have the chance to share their story with other women and inspire more people to get running.
To be in with a chance to win this fantastic opportunity, local women are being asked to nominate themselves, friends, or family members who would like to challenge themselves this summer.
Claire Donald from Purple Patch says: “Sport England’s Active People survey shows the number of women runners has risen consistently year on year. However, there’s still a huge difference between male and female participation. By partnering with This Girl Can we hope to help narrow the gap, even if only by a small number.”

Over 3,000 runners are expected to take to the Maidenhead Half Marathon start line. The two lap course begins in the town centre and has been designed for fast times, ideal for runners of all abilities and goals.
