Race news: The Golden Mile, hosted by The Stowmarket Striders - September 5, 2015

Returning for its second year as one of the most exciting races in the County, The Golden Mile will see runners of all ages and abilities hit the streets of Stowmarket. The premise is simple….to complete the one mile course as fast as possible.

Hosted by local running club, The Stowmarket Striders and sponsored by PPG, Muntons, Stowmarket Town Council, Synergy-Web and Sweatshop, the race is back by popular demand following the huge success of the inaugural event last year (HERE).

An expected 250 runners will run the iconic 1 mile distance, on closed roads, finishing at the Recreation Ground on Finborough Road. Just in time to coincide with the start of the beach party so you can celebrate your mile time with some great food, drink and music.

The race is being held on the 5th September, with the start gun sounding at 2pm. There will be trophies for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place male & female runners as well as medals for all finishers. We’ve also have the added incentive this year of a £50 prize fund for a new course record in both the male and female categories.

The race is to raise funds for local hospice fundraiser, Trust Maria, which was set up in memory of Maria Mcsloy, a local resident who, along with her daughter, used to run with Stowmarket Striders. Trust Maria raises much-needed funds to provide specialist equipment and facilities for local hospices. Last year’s race raised over £600 and we hope to do that again in 2015!

The Golden Mile is the brainchild of Stowmarket Strider , Tim Larke. “I’m delighted that we are once again hosting this unique race.  Last year’s event exceeded our expectations and 2015 should once again prove to be a popular event in the race calendar.  The added incentive of the prize money to challenge last years winning times will add to the event and we are also delighted to offer more category prizes, as we introduce under 11, 13 and 15 prizes to those category winners. Thanks once again for the support from our sponsors Stowmarket  Town Council , PPG,  Muntons,  Synergy-Web and Sweatshop”.

Advance entries cost just £3….a bargain. Get in quick though, there will be no entries on the day. Entry to the race can now be done online through the Striders website.
