Race news: The Grand 10k Run at Aintree Racecourse, which takes place on Sunday 20th September 2015, will give 19 year old Joe Clarkson the opportunity to run and raise money for a cause close to his heart
When Joe was only 12 years old, he sadly lost his father Dave Clarkson within a month of him being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease at just 46 years old.
With the support of his girlfriend Elly Foy and three friends, Joe will be running the race in memory of his father and aiming to raise as much money as he can for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Joe says: "My dad was a dedicated runner who took part in many 10k runs and half marathons in and around my hometown of Liverpool. I have chosen to run this race because its local to me and I grew up watching my father run in many local races".
The Grand 10k Run has been organised by Sports Tours International and follows a route within the ground of Aintree, home to the famous Grand National.
Graham Jackson, Race Director at Sports Tours International commented: "Our races welcome many people running for a charity that is important to them. We would like to wish Joe the best of luck in raising money for this great cause".
The Grand 10k Run at Aintree Racecourse is a race for people of all standards and everyone is welcome. Those taking part are also welcome to run in aid of their chosen charity.
This year’s official charity partners are Alder Hey Children’s Charity and Claire House Children’s Hospice, both Merseyside based charities dedicated to caring for seriously ill children and their families.
