Yeovil Montacute parkrun

In typical English conditions, with a bit of cloud cover to help the runners go swinging round corners, Yeovil Montacute parkrun celebrated a successful Ashes campaign with double Nelson in attendance - 222 runners - of whom 32 were first timers and 33 recorded new Personal Bests. The cut strip had been watered overnight but was a bit lumpy – meaning running conditions were interesting, as they often are on uncovered pitches!

Steve Allen was the umpire, keeping control of the players with steely resolve, and you could cut the tension with a cricket stump as he called “play” at the start.

There was a good opening partnership between Matthew Harris of Winchester & District AC, on debut, and grizzled veteran Jason Scott (it’s the beard!) as both carried their bat to finish in in 18m06. Ben Lloyd of Yeovil Olympiads came in at number three as he crossed the line in a time of 18m45, and Mike Collins headed up the age grading standings with 75.53% for his the time 19:41 (12th overall).

In the Men’s annual points competition, James Todd now heads up the standings with an unassailable lead of 134 points with 3579 points ahead of Rob Gundry (3445) and James Legg (3383). In the Ladies points competition, Lucy Pittard (3532 points) leads the way from Tina Hewitt (3133) and Vicky Gale (2972).

In a case of bowling a maiden over, Katie Lloyd of Yeovil Olympiads AC was first lady (finishing in 35thplace overall) as she crossed the line in 22m14 – the second time in 12 appearances that she’s been leading. Elaine Hurley was second lady (39th overall) over the line in 22m28, holding off the challenge of Yeovil Town RRC’s Anna Lloyd, who was third (43rd overall) in 22m40.
