The 10th anniversary of the Lakeland Trails in Keswick, Lake District on Saturday 5th September has attracted a capacity field of over 1350 trail runners from all over the UK. For the first time at a Lakeland Trails event, the number of women taking part (55%) is greater than the number of men (45%).

There are a number of events throughout the day, with the Derwentwater Trail Run 10km, starting at 11am. Later in the day there’s the tough but fun Derwentwater Trail Challenge 15km starting at 1pm, and finally for the serious runners, the Derwentwater Trail Race 15km starts at 2pm.

Competitors have to tackle the most spectacular mountain trail race in the UK, taking in elevated panoramic views of lake Derwent Water and most of the Northern fells. The start and finish is at Fitz Park, in Keswick, and the course climbs up the Glenderaterra valley before skirting Lonscale crags and descending by the side of Latrigg.

There will be a real family friendly festival feel to the day, with live music from the Batala Lancaster samba drumming band, and singer/songwriter Pete Lashley. Food stalls, retail stands, MC and commentary, a Kid’s Zone with bouncy castle, face paining, balloon art and children’s Fun Runs (setting off at 12.30pm - with all entry on the day).

Mayor of Keswick, Paul Titley will be presenting the prizes on the day, and there will be a special presentation to Keswick Mountain Rescue, one of the charity partners to benefit financially from the event.

The Lakeland Trails in Keswick is supporting local charities, including the Keswick Mountain Rescue, Fitz & Hope Park Trust and Nurture Lakeland and Fix The Fells. In addition, many people are running the event to raise funds for their own charities.

Event partners include Fitz & Hope Park Trust, Mirehouse Estates, ASICS, Bowland Communications, Mountain Trauma Rescue Services, John Bagge Sports Therapy, James Kirby Photography, Nurture Lakeland, Fix The Fells, VO2 Max Timing, TrailRunning.co.uk and VO2 Max Events
