Race news: Northern Gas Networks Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay - Sunday October 11, 2015

Businesses in Yorkshire have shown they are up for a challenge by signing up in record numbers for one of the region’s biggest corporate running events.

A total of 120 teams will take part in the Northern Gas Networks Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay on Sunday 11th October – a 50 per cent increase on last year’s entry figure.

David Gill, Director of Stakeholder Relations at Northern Gas Networks, said: “It is fantastic that this year’s Northern Gas Networks Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay has sold out so quickly. It clearly illustrates just how popular the event has become and I’m sure all the teams taking part will enjoy the special marathon day atmosphere. It’s shaping up to be a great day.”

Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Manager Graham Watson added: “The Northern Gat Networks Corporate Relay is always a brilliant and colourful events - with lots of friendly rivalry. With 50 per cent more entries, it’s set to be bigger and better than ever.”

The relay splits the 26.2 miles into six legs of between three and six miles, making it accessible to runners of all abilities, and is open to companies, sports clubs, groups of friends and other organisations.

A host of celebrities took part in last year’s event including with former England full-back Danny Mills, Olympian Tracey Morris, former Leeds Rhinos star Barrie McDermott, World Cup referee Howard Webb, Paralympian Hannah Cockroft and BBC’s Harry Gration and Amy Garcia. It was won by Hassra, the sports and social arm of the civil service, in a time of 2:41:20.

The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon is part of the legacy of the inspirational Jane Tomlinson, who raised nearly £2m for charity by taking on a series of tough physical challenges despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.

With places in the Marathon and the Relay now sold out, the only way to be a part of this must-do event is the Plusnet Yorkshire 10 Mile – a new run to be staged just after the marathon sets off. For more details and to enter, go to: www.theyorkshiremarathon.com
