Chrissie Wellington talks about life after retirement, including marriage, home buying and a baby on the way
Four-time Ironman Triathlon World Champion Chrissie Wellington (www.chrissiewellington.org), is a British sporting legend. Unbeaten in 13 iron-distance triathlons during her career, Chrissie retired after winning the 2011 Ironman World Championships in Kona. Of that final win, achieved despite crippling injuries incurred during a bike crash weeks before the event, she said:
As an athlete I sought ‘the perfect race’. That race within myself where I dug to the depths mentally and physically, and that hard-fought race with my competitors. The World Ironman Championships in 2011 was the icing on the cake for me as an athlete. It was my ‘perfect race’ and it ‘completed’ me.
Now resident in Bristol with husband Tom - and with her first child due in December 2015 - Chrissie is the event Ambassador for the new Bristol + Bath Marathon (www.bristolbathmarathon.com), and exciting new fully-closed road city to city marathon. John Levison travelled to Bristol recently to meet up with Chrissie and find out what she's up to these days, her role with the new event and find out what her own sporting goals are these days,
The inaugural Sanlam Bristol + Bath Marathon takes place on Sunday 25th October 2015. #RUNBB
