Race report: Windsor Running Festival - Saturday, September 26, 2015

Windsor Running Festival - Saturday, September 26, 2015

The Running4Women Windsor 10K, which is part of the Windsor Running Festival, took place today (Saturday 26th September 2015) and saw a record number of 796 runners cross the finish line of the 10K course.

The dry, sunny weather made for great running conditions and treated the runners to beautiful, far-reaching views across Windsor Great Park.

One of the first women-only events in the UK, the Running4Women events attract women of all levels and all ages including novices, charity runners and club runners. The Running4Women Windsor 10K features a picturesque course, stunning surroundings and amazing views of Windsor Castle with both the start and finish on The Long Walk. Many runners brought friends and families along and there was a fantastic celebratory atmosphere in Windsor Great Park throughout the day.

The start horn went off at 12 noon with fitness model, presenter and runner Nell McAndrew amongst a small group who took the lead straight from the start. Nell was in first place by the time the group reached the top of The Long Walk and she kept extending the gap on the undulating course, claiming the win with a nearly two minute gap in a new course record time of 39:16. Collette Callanan (Sandhurst Joggers), who came third in the 2014 race, secured second place in 41:03 ahead of Liz Killip (Stragglers) who finished in 41:25.

Katherine Hardy and Alexia Limpert-Peers were the fastest team in the Generation Game by achieving the lowest aggregate time of 1:38:31 as mother and daughter.

The full results and images will be available on the event website www.running4women.com on Monday.

Joanne Tranter (Manager, Special Events) from Running4Women commented: “This year’s Running4Women Windsor 10K has been a huge success, and we would like to thank all the runners as well as the spectators, supporters, and of course our volunteers and marshals. Everyone loves the beautiful surroundings, and that last mile down the iconic Long Walk with an amazing view of Windsor Castle is an unforgettable experience. It’s great to see so many female runners of all levels get together, many of them raising money for our official charity partners. A big well done to everyone who took part and congratulations to Nell McAndrew for her very impressive achievement.”

The official charities had a presence in the race village and were meeting and supporting their runners whilst raising awareness of their work. CLIC Sargent is the Platinum Charity Weekend Partner for the Windsor Running Festival, with Cancer Research UK the Gold Charity Weekend Partner and Help for Heroes the Silver Charity Weekend Partner. Bloodwise and The National Brain Appeal are the Bronze Charity Weekend Partners, and Alzheimer’s Society, Childlife, CRY, Daisy’s Dream and Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation are Copper Charity Weekend Partners.

Lewis Hay, Running Events Fundraising Manager for CLIC Sargent, said: “CLIC Sargent were delighted to have our biggest ever team taking part in this year’s Running4Women Windsor 10K and would like to say a huge thank you to all of the wonderful runners and volunteers who came along this weekend to support CLIC Sargent.

“It’s great to be part of this fantastic event and we are hopeful that our team of runners will raise an incredible £100,000 which will help us continue and expand our work in supporting children and young people with cancer, and their families. We are now looking forward to the 2016 Windsor Running Festival and can’t wait to welcome lots of new runners to our team!”

Sponsors of the Running4Women Windsor 10K 2015 include ASICS, Alton Sports, Xempo Race Pacing, Windsor Leisure Centre, Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, everydayhero, Macdonald Windsor Hotel, Saka and Mars Chocolate UK.
