Race feature: An event designed to empower people to test and extend their adventure fitness - the inaugural BG Survival Races - London, October 3-4, 2015
You often hear the claim the an Obstacle Course Race (OCR) is “the toughest race you will ever enter”, be it Tough Mudder or the original OCR, Tough Guy. However when we heard that British adventurer, writer and host of TV show “The Island with Bear Grylls” was offering an OCR with survival elements - we thought something special may happen.
Back in April 2015 we attended the launch of the “Bear Grylls Survival Race” (HERE) and this weekend in Trent Park, London, marks the inaugural race sponsored by Land Rover, Triumph Motorcycles and AQUACAI. Offering a number of races from a 5k for “everyone looking for a challenge” to a 30k “ultimate survivor course”, it is set to be something special.
Bear describes the races as “empowering people to test and extend their adventure fitness, using the type of obstacles that I have often encountered in the wild. We all have an edge, and this race is designed to push those physical and mental limits, to there & beyond. More girls are joining the Scouts than ever before and more girls are getting into adventure than ever before, and I love that. Some of the toughest adventurers I know are women, and this course will see both men and women competing at the highest level over some of the toughest obstacles ever devised. Join us in this ultimate adventure-fitness race!"
The races are set across the whole weekend and form part of the Bear Grylls’ “adventure festival” including music from Newton Faulkner and everything from bungee jumps to bush craft demonstrations. Bear Grylls is offering an experience and fun for the whole family.
