In 2015, 13,726 runners signed up and next year up to 15,000 are expected to join the throng running around the vibrant borough of Hackney.  Book your place now at www.runhackney.com for a limited time only, runners can enjoy an early bird discount of £5.

The Vitality Run Hackney Half Marathon is a fast, friendly course that runs through the heart of East London. The route shows off the very best of the borough’s beautiful green spaces. Starting and finishing at Hackney Marshes, the closed-roads course passes by some of Hackney’s best kept parks and key landmarks, including the world-famous Hackney Empire and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

This is a race for runners of all abilities: from elite international athletes to first-time runners.  So whether you’re looking for a goal to help you get fit, a challenge to raise money for charity, a PB on the fast course or simply to have fun, the Vitality Run Hackney Half Marathon is a great race.  Once again, runners can expect huge local support, plenty of live entertainment and numerous water stations along the route.  All finishers will be rewarded with an epic medal commemorating their 2016 race, a Brooks Running finishers technical t-shirt and a premium goody bag.

  • The Schools’ Challenge is back for 2016, with local primary school children running 1 mile per week in the run-up to the event and completing their final mile on race day where they enjoy racing through the same finish line as the half marathon runners in front of a cheering crowd.
  • The Company Challenge is also back with local businesses battling it out for the first four runners home.
  • Running clubs will also be stepping up the pace to compete for the Running Club of the Year award which will be given to the club which fields the fastest team of four.

“The Vitality Run Hackney Half Marathon is quickly becoming established in the local and running race calendars and after the success of the last two years’ events, we are expecting a sell-out in 2016,” says Jon Ridgeon, Vitality Run Hackney Race Ambassador.  “The closed-roads, urban route is popular with both novice and experienced runners and the unique Hackney support and party atmosphere makes it a very special event whether people are pushing for a PB or simply out to enjoy a spring half marathon among friends and supporters.”

Cllr Jonathan McShane, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Culture at Hackney Council said: “Vitality Run Hackney has quickly become a firm favourite with runners and local residents alike. Nothing beats the feeling of running through the streets of Hackney and into Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with thousands of people lining the route, cheering you on. It has a unique, carnival-like atmosphere that really shows east London at its best, and I’m delighted we’re able to bring it back for the third year.

“Next year’s event looks set to be the biggest and best yet, so whether you’re an experienced runner aiming to beat your personal best or a novice looking to set yourself a new challenge, I look forward to seeing you at the starting line.”

Nick Read, Commercial Director of Vitality, the title sponsor of the Vitality Run Series, said: "We are delighted to announce the opening of registrations for the third Vitality Run Hackney, part of the Vitality Run Series. We look forward to seeing all of the runners in May 2016."

“Cancer Research UK is delighted to once again be the Official National Charity Partner for the 2016 Vitality Run Hackney Half Marathon,” says Kathryn Hurrell, Cancer Research UK, Sports Team Manager. “Last year we had an incredible team racing around this iconic route in the heart of London but we want to make 2016 even bigger! We are hoping to raise over £150,000 that will be directly funding research into childhood cancers. Every day, around 10 young people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer so join our team to help us stop cancer in its tracks.” she says.  “To join the CRUK team for free and commit to raising £400 just call 0300 123 5461 or email sportsteam@cancer.org.uk and together we will cross that finish line and beat cancer sooner.”

“On 8th May all of the Vitality Run Hackney runners will run, jog or walk past St Joseph’s Hospice and I will personally be there alongside our army of hospice supporters to cheer the runners on. I am very proud that the hospice will be one of the charity partners for this event because the money that will be raised will make such a difference to us. With your help, St Joseph’s Hospice will be able to pay for our nursing team who provide fantastic care, hope and time to all those that need us at one of the most difficult times in their lives.” says Sarah Thompson – Director of Fundraising at St Joseph’s Hospice

“Many youth in London are facing troubling futures. Join Team Sport for Good to give kids the future they deserve and unlock their potential in London and beyond. Run alongside us in Team Sport for Good as we return to Vitality Run Hackney for another fantastic race, in the race to change lives!” says Richard Loat from Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
