Race news: Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon - Sunday, October 11, 2015
A minute’s applause is to be held before the start of October’s Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon in memory of runner David Colley who sadly died at the Great North Run last month.
Up to 10,000 runners will remember David, 58, from Hull, who, but for his untimely death, would have been taking part in the event.
David’s daughters Sarah and Emily will take part in the event’s 10 Mile race as a tribute to their father and to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.
Along with Emily, David had already taken part in the Run For All Yorkshire Season Ticket this year – Leeds, York and Hull 10Ks – and was due to take part in what would have been his first marathon in York on October 11th.
Sarah said: “Our dad was a wonderful man who was taken from us far too soon. We have been overwhelmed by the support from everyone, especially the running community, and wish to express our most heartfelt thanks for this at this very difficult time.”
Emily added: “I know he'll be running beside us, shouting encouragement all the way.”
Mike Tomlinson, for the Yorkshire Marathon, said: “David had taken part in many of our events over the past few years and we were obviously extremely sad to hear this tragic news.
