On a two day trip, that takes him from Walthamstow, London, to a Lakeland summit cairn, Tom's strained relationship with the great outdoors is repaired. His tale of the journey, from the bustling city to the small town of Staveley and on into beautiful landscape of the Lake District is inspiring.
His is not a tale of daring do, of conquering the impossible or battling one's demons. This is instead a tale of a simple journey, one any of us could make, on a train from Euston, into a place where life moves a little slower and where the eyes and mind can rest and reset.
The craze to go ever further and faster, to make the rare adventures in our lives ever harder and more hair raising, can make us forget just how simple it is. Just get out there and do something - anything, to re-connect with nature and feel inspired to explore your surroundings. Hop on a train or get on your bike ...
