Just a couple of days remain until the Grand Union Canal Half Marathon returns on Sunday 8th November 2015, and entries are filling fast! Voted fifth place in the 'scenery' category for Runners World Races of the Year 2012, the event leads runners along the picturesque canal towpath from Uxbridge to Watford.

The 13.1 mile route offers a rare flat, multi-terrain course to keep runners on their toes and the course is traffic-free apart from one minor road crossing. The event also boasts a magnificent spectator-friendly start at Cowley Recreation Ground and finish at Cassiobury Park. As well as this, Race Organiser Purple Patch Running have detailed easy to get to view points on route: the Swan & Bottle pub at mile two; the Horse & Barge Pub near mile five; Coy Carp Pub between mile six and seven; and Café@lock 81 at mile nine. So if you normally struggle to get your friends and family to support, this might just be the race they decide to attend!

As this is a point-to-point race, entrants can choose to book and pay for a seat on the transfer bus when registering, allowing participants to leave their car at the Watford finish and travel to the start without the hassle of returning to Uxbridge after the race.

Chris Donald, Race Director at organiser Purple Patch Running comments: “This half marathon provides fantastic scenery and plenty of spectator support to help keep runners motivated on route. We welcome runners of all experience levels to come along and give it a go – what better way to spend your Sunday morning than enjoying the fresh air! It’s set to be a fantastic event and we look forward to seeing you all on the day.”

The Grand Union Canal Half Marathon starts at 10am on Sunday 8th November and all runners will receive a commemorative race medal. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third male and female, with the first male and female also winning a free pair of Newton trainers from race sponsor Newton Running.
