Race preview: Nuclear Races and OCRA UK are combining their efforts to put on the UK OCR Championships - November 14, 2015

Obstacle Course Racing, or “OCR” as it is affectionately known, has come a long way since 1987 when Tough Guy held the first ever OCR in the hallowed Killing Fields. It is estimated that there are around 270 races this year alone, with a race taking place nearly every weekend of this year, and this number is increasing as the popularity of the sport grows and continues.

This weekend marks a special moment in OCR, the UK’s first legitimate OCR Championships, held at the ever popular Nuclear Races in Essex (HERE). Over 500 competitors, qualifying from a host of races this year from the Reaper (HERE) to the Suffering (HERE), are set to race for the title of UK Champion or first in their age group.

The build-teams from Nuclear Races and OCRA UK are combining to produce special obstacles, with influences from the World Championships such as “the Weaver” to Ninja Warrior and the “Nuclear Nunchucks”

Run247 sent contributor Thomas Blanc, known as the UK’s (and France’s) most technical obstacle course racer, to take a look at what competitors can expect to face at the Championships and how they can tackle these new obstacles.

PART 4: ORGANISER'S INTERVIEW

For race organisers every day before a big race is a long day! We took the opportunity to talk to Mark Leinster and James Parrish on a cold monday evening, five days before race day, to get an insight to how the race has come together.

We also get some clarity on the Championship rules around not completing an obstacle and find out about the planned live event streaming:
