Athlete news: Ultra-Trail Runner Julien Chorierwill race in IRONMAN 70.3 Pays d’Aix and IRONMAN France Nice

Known in the ultra-trail running circuit (Team HOKA) for his two victories at the Diagonale des Fous (2009 and 2011), a mountain foot race of more than 170 km with 10 000m of elevation gain, Julien Chorier set himself the IRONMAN challenge right in the middle of his trail season. “I will start my season in March with the TransGranCanaria (125km) with an objective at the end of June with the Lavaredo Ultra Trail. Between those two races, the IRONMAN perfectly fits into my preparation. This adventure has been encouraged and supported by COMPRESSPORT.”
Coming from the cycling world where he raced at a high national level until 2006, he went towards mountain racing on long distances of more than 100km. On his trail running resume, you can underline his wins at Hardrock100 and Diagonale des fous, his podiums on the Ultra Trail du Mont-Blanc, the TransGranCanaria or the Marathon de Paris that he ran in 2h35’29.
With the goal to progress and to gain a “new experience in an environment that I don’t know very well but that gives me motivation to discover and to jump into the unknown”, Julien will be on the starting line of IRONMAN 70.3 Pays d’Aix on May 1,2016, as a preparation for IRONMAN France Nice, which will take place on June 5, 2016.
Racing in M30-34 age group, he could be in contention for a top spot if the swimming training during the winter bears its fruits. “My swimming level is really bad, I will work this part to perform in cycling and running. I will have to diversify my training with a more global approach of physical preparation."
Even if participating in the Hawaii World Championship or in the IRONMAN 70.3 Mooloolaba World Championship is not in his plans, his cycling and running abilities will surely make him an impressive athlete.
