Race report: Vitality WestRun London 10k - Sunday, November 15, 2015

Thousands of runners for the first ever Vitality WestRun London 10k took to the streets of Fulham and Chelsea this morning, alongside hundreds of Family Fun Run participants and heroic race ambassador Victoria Milligan, to complete the city’s exciting addition to the London race calendar!
The men’s race was won in style by Olympian Scott Overall in 29 minutes and 53 seconds, followed by Paul Navesey in 31 minutes and 58 seconds, and Victor Mound took third in 32 minutes and 39 seconds. The women’s race was won by Lucie Custance in 35 minutes and 36 seconds, followed by Emma Davies in 36 minutes and 58 seconds, and Simone Dailey took third.
Victoria Milligan, who completed her first ever 10k event after losing her left leg in a tragic boat accident, successfully completed the race alongside Team Milligan, who were all running for Child Bereavement UK, and to date have raised an amazing £10,000 for the charity close to her heart. She said: “Before today I had never run 10k, the maximum was around 8k, however I was determined to cross the finish line regardless of whether my team and I ran, jogged or walked. I did it for my daughter, and anytime I thought this is too painful and I can't take another step, she drove me forwards. If I can do it, really, anyone can!”
The new course started on the New King’s Road and finished on Eel Brook Common, taking in a picturesque route around the streets of Fulham on fully closed roads. On the common, thousands of spectators congregated with friends and family members to take full advantage of the great view, plus entertainment and hospitality on hand.
Jamie Warren, Head of Marketing and Commercial at GO2, said: “Congratulations to all of our runners that took part in the Vitality WestRun London today, from the professionals right through to all our young fun runners that ran with parents and family members. The race was designed to incorporate a number of exciting elements to attract runners and spectators of all ages, and create a real community festival feel. We hope the success of the inaugural race will enable the event to become a real staple race for runners in London and across the South.”
Neville Koopowitz, CEO of Vitality, commented: “Congratulations to everyone who participated in today’s Vitality WestRun London event and well done to Scott Overall and Lucie Custance. As a new event within the Vitality Run Series, we were delighted to see so many runners take part and we look forward to the Vitality Brighton Half Marathon on 28th February.”
