Race rpeort: Business people from across Yorkshire pulled on their trainers to help make one of the region’s biggest corporate sporting challenges a huge success

A record 120 teams took part in this year’s Northern Gas Networks Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay, which is open to companies, charities, sports club, groups of friends and other organisations and splits the marathon’s 26.2 miles into six legs, making it accessible for runners of all abilities.
The winners were revealed on Thursday when teams collected their well-deserved trophies.
The contest brought double delight for supporters of a charity that funds research into brain tumours in children. Teams from OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity romped to victory in the event’s open and female categories. The charity was formed in summer 2014 by the parents and friends of Oscar Hughes, a 9 year old York boy who died after being diagnosed with a rare brain tumour.
OSCAR’s team 2 clocked a time of 3:04:39 to win the open category ahead of Off The Rails who finished second and Walker Crips in third. The charity’s team 1 won the female category in a time of 3:36:27, with McCann Complete Medical second and LNT Group third.
A time of 3:20:10 secured victory in the mixed category for Great Rail Journeys. NHS Shared Services B took second place and Robin’s Reliant Runners were third.
David Gill, Director of Stakeholder Relations at Northern Gas Networks, said: “The relay is a great way of getting more runners involved on marathon day and helps to generate a fantastic atmosphere.
“It is clearly growing in popularity and it was wonderful to see a record entry this year. The relay fosters team spirit and is an excellent way of supporting good causes. Well done to all of those who took part.”
The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon is part of the legacy of the inspirational Jane Tomlinson, who raised nearly £2m for charity by taking on a series of tough physical challenges despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.
Graham Watson, Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Manager, said: “We are very grateful to all those who took part and to Northern Gas Networks for their marvellous support once more.”
